Getting Pulled Over...

(Anonymous) 2024-10-20 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Have you gotten pulled over cops before? For what reason(s)? Did you get a ticket?

Are you always scared? Because whenever I see cop lights go off, even if I'm not the one getting pulled over, I panic for a few seconds.

Yup, that instant panic "oh shit" feeling. But I also have anxiety about being wrong or getting yelled at so layer that on top too.

I've gotten pulled over three times, ticket once which I went to court to contest and it was thrown out (but I still had to pay court fees which were about the same as the ticket because of course).

I've been pulled over a few times, only got a ticket when I was by myself. When my husband was with me, I just got warnings. I don't think that's a coincidence.

No, though the fear of it is always there whenever I so much as see a cop car regardless of what I'm doing.

My brother got pulled over once. Crazy random happenstance that it was by our uncle (I learned ACAB early in life at family gatherings).

I got pulled over once for speeding in a construction zone (I saw the sign too late). I immediately burst into tears and I guess the cop felt bad for me ‘cause he let me go with just a warning, but I was scared all day. Sure didn’t help that I’d just gotten my license and was sure my parents were gonna kill me if they found out.

I've gotten pulled over for not fully stopping at a stop sign (I was 18 and miraculously I was able to pay for the ticket without my parents finding out), was pulled over a handful of times with an old car that had a broken tail light (always got a warning, young me should have gotten the light taken care of but it took me a few months), the last time I got a ticket was when I followed a bunch of cars onto the shoulder to get around a car waiting to make a left turn at a single lane intersection. The car behind me was a cop car. Just my sort of luck XD

Although, gotta say, my last two experiences were luck in my favor. Most recently, late last year, I was going 60MPH in a 45MPH zone. I thought I would for sure get a ticket but the cop let me go with a warning. I have no idea why. Hopefully, simply because the cop was nice IDK.

And the last one was probably in 2022. It was late one night when I was driving to work (I work graveyard), this car behind me got onto the ramp toward a private highway just so they could speed really fast and get ahead of me on the small road that forked away from the highway. Right as they do this, we both drive past a cop car that saw the whole thing. Cop car pulls out from the side of the road, red and blue lights turn on, my heart rate speeds up as I pull over to the shoulder, cop car drives past me, and the car in front of me gets pulled over and I drive to work in the happiest mood I've ever felt going to work. XD

Got pulled over several times. Twice I got a ticket... it was deserved as I was speeding (long work commute, and yes, I know that's no excuse). One time they let me go, and one time I had to follow up at the police station because I'd had a crazy year and was behind on license plate renewal.

Got pulled over for speeding twice - once was one of those places where the speed limit drops for no particular reason from 55 mph to 35 mph and the other was on a very straight road in the middle of nowhere at about 2AM and I just sort of lost track of how fast I was going. And once I was pulled over for having an out of date registration sticker on my license plate. I had the new one in my glove box but it had been pouring all week and I hadn't been able to put it on yet.

And yeah, every time I wound up with the shakes after.

Yes, one time when I was a relatively new driver and had forgotten to turn my lights on at night. It wasn't habit yet. And then once when I actually had a broken taillight and didn't realize.

Also twice for speeding. Both times I was on a long drive in multiple states and had lost track of the speed limit.

I've never been pulled over but I don't drive very much at all.

I was in the car with my parents once on a family trip when they got pulled over (just got a warning bc we were tourists).

I was lucky. I was driving with a busted seat belt and all the cop did was give me a lecture about getting it fixed and I was all "yes sir".
