when they left rumpelstiltskin in zelena's cage and just... fucked off and literally left him there... I was done with them as 'heroes'

It wasn't just them, though. The whole show was completely fucked up as to who was a "hero" and who was a "villain" and who deserved redemption and who was pure evil and who was perfectly fine despite doing far worse shit. I couldn't deal with it anymore and I wish I'd stopped in the first season where they had Regina rape and murder a guy and thought it was just fine. In retrospect, it was a very clear warning.

I don't think they said it was fine so much as they were saying anyone can be redeemed. Which I don't think is bad. But they were also saying no one had to work at redemption and that even if a character goes back and forth many times like Rumple does, redemption in the end will still clear off everything. And that part is less cool.

It is almost like branding someone a Hero or an Evil Villain is reductive and fails to take into account actions or ability to change. Gee, I wonder if that was a theme or something?
