I have a 'blanket permission to do any performative works of any of my works' disclaimer on my AO3 account for years now and exactly one person took me up on it a few weeks back making a podfic out of my fics. I was very lucky, cause it was honestly pretty great? If someone made a podfic that sucked, I would also be quite irritated, especially if they're choices were weird, like you said. I would probably either drop a little 'thank you' or just outright ignore it.
