The only Character/Reader I can handle is the stuff I've written myself (which I've only done three times, and two of those times the self-insert was an OC with the serial numbers filed off and not "literally me" by name, features, personal history, etc.). I can't usually imagine myself doing or saying the things the "Y/N" character is described as doing and so the whole idea just falls really flat. In effect, the author has written "me" out of character, and really, how could they be expected to get it right (other than by random chance)?
