It's really simple and it has nothing to do with them being "MCU haters". The reason it happens is because there's a really big financial incentive to get mad at big, prominent nerd properties for being too woke. That's it. That's the whole thing. They're not any more mad at the MCU than they are Star Wars. Plenty of them are mad about Lord of the Rings. There's just a lot of racist, bigoted fanboys out there and money to be made by catering to them.

The same reason so many angry anti-woke incels are still MCU fans? I really don't think someone's opinion of a franchise is an accurate way to determine their political or social views. I've seen many a fan miss the damn mark on a series.

I'm not sure this is quite the right way around. They don't randomly become angry anti-woke incels because they hate MCU. They were always that kind of people in the first place and MCU is an easy target of a big popular franchise that sometimes has women and black people in it.

I can speak on this. There is a... crossover - not exactly one to one, but certainly a trend - for a dip in quality to be accompanied by adoption of woke elements. Sometimes it focuses on wokeness and that makes the quality dip, some times the quality dips and the wokeness is adopted as a sort of shield. Sometimes - like in the MCU - it's just a pure fucking coincidence.

And on the other side we have people who hate Disney and find wokeness to be a good excuse, or hate wokeness and use a perceived lack of quality as an excuse...

I mean there are multiple angles of intersection between inevitable drop in quality, adoption of woke ideology, people's tastes changing, people needing an excuse to be angry. It's all very complicated and there is no single unifying reason.

But with MCU? I think it started with the inevitable drop in quality - can't stay great for ever - combined with some unfathomable choices disney made to correct the downward trend.

Because mysoginist, racist and other -ist assholes hate it when you change something they thought was "safe" and "sacred". They always think 'it was better in the olde days' (meaning we could say what we want without anyone daring to call us out, had more power, more priviledges, etc.) so change? A big nope. They're also just hateful jerks, period. Hating people and things is what they do best. Being vocally angry about in on social media, their backyard, right-wing and neo-nazi rallies,... is some of them's favorite pastime so any excuse to do so is a good opportunity, doesn't mean they cared about it in the first place.

I gave up on the show when both of them stalked and harassed Her brother-in-law/sister's boyfriend. When it turned out he was completely innocent, neither of them ever apologized, as far as I can tell. He even went to the husband's/boyfriend's house and beat him up for being mad at Her for trying to ruin his life.

It was so fucked up.

I went back after She left, but He was still there, and I hadn't gotten over his shitty behavior in the first season.

Tom Holland, bless his heart, tried his best to be Nathan Drake. It didn't work. I Remember the last time something was so badly cast and it was Dane Dehaan trying to play the Han Solo-esque Valerian. Kinda think people mostly still WATCH action movies aren't ready to see kids playing these roles. Henry Cavill is probably the youngest of the new era of action.

I think timothee chalamet tried his best with playing Paul, and it worked for the first one where he was PLAYING a young and naive kid, but he didn't have the... je ne sais quoi needed for the second one which needed him to be a tougher man of action.

Me, too.

Selfshipping is great and I hope people are enjoying themselves when writing/drawing/whatevering with that. But not me. I can't imagine myself with any fictional character. When I was younger, it was a lack of self-confidence and the whole "nobody could love me like that" rigamarole that came with being an insecure youth. Nowadays? Eh, just doesn't appeal to me. I'm more fond of shipping fictional characters with each other.

IDK, I find the fandom chat boring and repetitive almost immediately. I just wanna chat with some ppl with similar interests. For some place like tumblr, I agree with you 100%, I don't want to know your personal lives, I'm just selecting for the 1% of ppl with good takes. But discord, it gets boring like that way too fast.
