I figure that making Vocally Hating A Specific Media Property a large feature of your online presence is not a thing that selects for well-balanced and sensible personality types. And anti-woke types? Not typically well-balanced, in addition to being assholes. I got extremely bored with the MCU and allergic to Bucky Barnes after 10,000 fics with Woobie Traumatized Bucky-Bear-Boo and loving depictions of actual trauma recovery. Nothing wrong with that if that's your jam, but it's a Sometimes Food for me, and much like peanut butter sandwiches and ramen, I can't take any of that anymore.

And what do I do about it? I backbutton. I don't watch the movies that are The Bucky Show, and I catch the other movies somewhere that isn't the theatre unless they sound really, really, really awesome and worth the Covid risk. And I only grouse about the MCU online maybe once a year.

I feel like vocal, vehement haters (who don't have the financial incentive mentioned to get an anti-woke following) of a show or a character, are just weird assholes, mainly.

I've always felt this way, but I don't get any pleasure out of hating something so loudly, iykwim. I hate a number of current politicians with the power of 10,000 suns, but it's a waste of my time and my life to expend effort shitting on them all the time.

Seriously, this. There are people who've hated the MCU since back when it was whiter than Chris Evans' backside. There are people who loved it until some plot or character twist turned them against it. There are people who are pissed off that comics canon in some spots was twisted to line up with the movie version more. There are people who just want it to stop encroaching on every other fandom.

And yeah, there are people who are so pissed off by the 5% of the franchise that could potentially be considered "woke" that they turn that into their personality. There is also a non-insignificant number of people who don't like Taylor Swift because they think she rigged the Super Bowl.

The sky is clear, the refraction of light in the atmosphere can make it appear blue but there are many other colours it can appear as. Choose another table to die at.
