When you have major corporations competing in an arms race on who can make the most money the incentive is to focus on what is making the most money.

Which means, it's need to be a franchise or recognizable brand/name.

What has been lost is the passing of the torch both in front of the camera and behind. Are stunt crews, directors, producers, writers, editors, set designers, actors, etc finding new talent and cultivating a culture in which their skills and knowledge can be utilized by others - whether or not these same people will be working on future projects together.

These days, the budget needs to be big but all of that is going towards the big named actors/directors and/or CGI.
Cutting costs means hiring less people. Less people means more work. More work means less time. Less time means less opportunities to invest in mentorships.

It's all instant gratification in the name of capitalism. There is no room to think of how to pass the torch and evolve the art.
