I know you said it because you're complaining (and your complaint is legit) but also I would absolutely watch the shit out of Xavier's Institute of Retirees. That would be hilarious.

I'd watch the shit out of that too lol. But to the secret's point, as a comedy, not an action flick.

DA- Why not both? Red, but with mutants!

Imagine Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian Murray McKellen lounging about in their fabulous mansion, being absolute bitches to everyone. The Vicious crossover I always wanted!

Any reason you wrote put Ian's middle name? Just curious!

Until they are 90...

All of Tom Cruise's characters have been 35 years old for the last 20 years.

Tom Holland, bless his heart, tried his best to be Nathan Drake. It didn't work. I Remember the last time something was so badly cast and it was Dane Dehaan trying to play the Han Solo-esque Valerian. Kinda think people mostly still WATCH action movies aren't ready to see kids playing these roles. Henry Cavill is probably the youngest of the new era of action.

I think timothee chalamet tried his best with playing Paul, and it worked for the first one where he was PLAYING a young and naive kid, but he didn't have the... je ne sais quoi needed for the second one which needed him to be a tougher man of action.

Yeah, but, for real, who watched Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and predicted Speed, The Matrix, and John Wick.

Also, I can't say it's obvious to me that someone playing Curly in Oklahoma! would make a good Wolverine.

Glen Powell seems to be really, really trying to be the next 'Action Hero', though.

Yeah. I think it's harder for a younger actor to break in to such roles because blockbuster action flicks/franchises are so damn EXPENSIVE these days and movie studios are so conservative. They want a big name to carry the film, and are far more wary of a younger, lesser known actor because the risk is greater.

That said, I'm with you. It'd be nice to see more variety in the genre itself but I'm also bad at thinking of someone who could do it.

Well, there's that Jim guy from The Office in the Tom Clancy Jack Ryan role, and Alan Ritchson as Reacher, but I think that's an indication that studios aren't taking risks for box office stuff with these guys and doing streaming franchises instead.

It takes a lot of *star quality* to carry a franchise, and say what you like about Tom Cruise, he has a following. There's no young actor who has Bruce Willis' charisma for action hero roles, that I can think of. Barry Keoghan? Nicholas Hoult deserves a shot.

They're just not making actors and actresses like they used to. A lot of them just aren't talented nor do they have star quality.

You might as well complain about long-running characters staying on long-running TV shows. They remain because viewers want them to. It's the same with Huge Jackmen. I'm not sure about Tom Cruise and Mission Impossible, though. People might be ready to watch someone else play Ethan Hunt.

I'm real tired of it too but then we got Chris Pratt, the Jason Bourne guy, Chris Pine to some extent and probably others I've forgotten and it became old fast too. I think it didn't last long because some actors and actresses are less willing to be stuck into these kinds of role, which are usually physically demanding too, and studios try to bring a little more diversity to their cast now while milking a franchise dry so it's not the lone straight white guy all the time (that's still the leading role most of the time) but team movies, spin-offs, prequels, which makes it easier to not always cast the same actors and actresses.

Because far fewer new actors go to the same church as Tom Cruise, the real religious weirdos who control Hollywood.

When you have major corporations competing in an arms race on who can make the most money the incentive is to focus on what is making the most money.

Which means, it's need to be a franchise or recognizable brand/name.

What has been lost is the passing of the torch both in front of the camera and behind. Are stunt crews, directors, producers, writers, editors, set designers, actors, etc finding new talent and cultivating a culture in which their skills and knowledge can be utilized by others - whether or not these same people will be working on future projects together.

These days, the budget needs to be big but all of that is going towards the big named actors/directors and/or CGI.
Cutting costs means hiring less people. Less people means more work. More work means less time. Less time means less opportunities to invest in mentorships.

It's all instant gratification in the name of capitalism. There is no room to think of how to pass the torch and evolve the art.

Deadpool & Wolverine was awesome though.
