Re: What is your troll philosophy?

Fun. Primarily for themselves, but as long as they're not too vicious they can be fun for the community too. Certain places where difference of opinion is ill tolerated often need trolls, someone to show that it's ok to not give a fuck about the psychopaths who fly off the handle over perceived slights and make everyone uncomfortable. Otherwise your place becomes toxic. And if it IS toxic already a troll can at worst do no harm, and maybe bring a little light hearted mischief.

If you're asking specifically about me, I don't see myself as a troll, but perhaps a little trollish. A little irreverent. I'll accept the label if you insist, but I don't come here specifically to troll. Not today anyway. I like this place from back in the day and I just like seeing the community every now and then.

I don't see you as a troll. And I disagree that trolls are fun. I see trolls more like the ao3hate!anon, the type of person that just trolls around waiting to be an asshole with no actual content to bring to the community.

All must love AO3. Resistance is futile.

I appreciate the kindness, but having only just encountering my first of AO3haters posts today, I can give you my first impression of him raw: I thought it was funny. The worst thing I've seen him do is express an irrational hatred of a website. I can see it getting old, and then with some careful timing getting funny again as long as he's not getting too personal with it, then getting old again...

The quickest way to kill a joke is to tell it over and over until it gets old.

Oh, I agree... but then at a certain point it becomes a running joke, and then you can play with the timing, situations, absurdity... Jokes don't die.

Yeah that's the thing... someone in theory could play with timing, situations, absurdity... but ao3 anon doesn't. Most of us are long past bored.

Same here. It's just obnoxious.
