Also ace, and most of the time I absolutely don't want sex scenes in anything I read, and actively try to find things without sex, but then there are times (rarely but still) where I'm like you. I like analyzing things and finding patterns but it's completely random as far as I can tell. I've heard some (cis) women say they get more horny around their period, but the timing doesn't fit that, plus it's not like I'm horny. Like you said, it doesn't turn me on, it's not something I fantasize about or masturbate to, it's nothing like that, it's just...interesting to read, sometimes.

And it's not an emotional satisfaction thing like other commenters have mentioned, because it doesn't seem emotional to me. I know I'm pretty much alone in this, but to me sex is a biological process and has absolutely zero to do with emotions (again, TO ME...I know it does for other people but it doesn't for me).

I think for me, it's about curiosity, maybe? For awhile several years ago I went through a phase of reading and watching things about scuba diving, even though I have never been scuba diving and have no interest in doing it, but some part of me just found it interesting. After awhile I lost interest and haven't really thought about it until now. I think if sex wasn't so pervasive in society I would've lost any sort of academic interest I had in it a long time ago, but since it's everywhere all the time, every now and then I'll think that maybe this time I can "solve" it (as in why people are so obssessed with it...I've done it, it's not that amazing/wonderful or the best thing in the world). Instead of just accepting that people like different things and I will never understand it any more than I will understand why people love, I don't know, seafood, or some other thing I don't enjoy, which is probably what I should do.

I am not like that with fic but I understand where you are coming from because I get like that with other things. One time I went in a Conservative Media rabbit hole just out of curiosity and trying tonunderstand a different world experience and view.

Othertimes it isnt so much a different worldview but like you said with scuba, just something I have no clue about or real desire to do but a strong curiosity.
