I'm far from ace but I have a lot of baggage with sex/intimacy and attraction in general, so for most of my life I loved smut because it was just a safer outlet to explore sexual *feelings* without involving myself or body into it, or triggering myself by settling with someone I'm not attracted to (I tend to only look at smut of characters I'm attracted to...). YMMV. TMI but I also tend to only masturbate to things I imagine in my head, I've never really "used" any smut I liked that way.
