* If people who aren't even fans of the musical can tell the edit was meant to be an homage to the musical poster, why is the star of said musical so clueless?

* Let's say that okay, Erivo, despite being the star of the musical, had no idea what the previous poster looked like and didn't realize the edit was done to make the promo picture look similar to the poster. Looking objectively at the edit, the main changes were: lower the hat brim, give her red lipstick, make Ariana Grande's hand cover slightly more of her face. It's still a big jump to say "I'm being erased!!!!!" by those changes.

* The internet is reacting that way because her initial overreaction was rather OTP. If she'd registered a more rational disappointment with the edit and laid out her reasons in a civil fashion, people would not be making fun of her now.

Note: Erivo's own words make it clear that she is aware of the original poster, so she must be aware of the reasoning behind the edit, yet she's still reacting like someone pissed in her cornflakes. Saying it's "the wildest, most offensive thing I have seen" makes Erivo sound like she lives an extremely sheltered life, or... she's exaggerating and looking for reasons to be offended.
