Best Purposely Unlikable Villains

Joffrey from GoT comes to mind, got any others?

Looking for ones with zero redeeming qualities.

Ramsey is more of that for me. At least Joffrey had style. Ramsey was cartoonishly evil.

The recent Sentinel Prime from Transformers ONE, and Get Away from IDW1. You can make an argument for Get Away based on backstory, but not much for anything else.

Hamdo from Now and Then, Here and There is the most loathsome villain I've ever seen in an anime series. I watched the show in a college anime club and the entire club cheered when he died.

What kind of villains do you prefer? Based on the post above this.

Evil for the sake of evil? Tragic backstory? Mindless evil? Evil because its fun? Noble goals, but evil way to get there?

All of the above. I don't think one of them is better than the other, I just want to see good, interesting versions. Any of the categories can be fun to watch, depending on how the character is written.

Remember Ming the Merciless from the old Flash Gordon movie? That kind. The kind who calls himself The Merciless and subscribes to Evil Overlord monthly.

I love OG Skeletor and Starscream, and the Eric Roberts version of The Master from Doctor Who. I don't need a baddie with a pathetic excuse or sad childhood, I want a murderous bastard with an evil sense of humour and a wicked turn of phrase. Evil, but goddamn they are stylish with it.

Depends on what the story is. I hate it when you get a villain inappropriate for the story, it just makes the hero seem like a bully or an idiot.

honestly the only kind I don't like is full on tragic backstory. Not only because it's been done to death, but because a villain plays a role that can be stupidly negated by the tragic backstory, so now the story has to twist itself in knots to still justify defeating the villain or otherwise not giving them a chance. Good ideas bad execution still leaves the villain a proper villain.

I like operatic evil supervillains who are insane and over-the-top and seem to treat being a supervillain as an art form.

I like competent, down-to-earth villains who are clearly villains and are in it for themselves and are willing to do awful things to further their own interests, but are also pragmatic and in touch with reality and willing to ally with the heroes when it serves their own interests - villains who get things done.

And I like really awful, despicable, hateful-human-being villains who are just completely terrible and everything they do just makes the world a worse place but in a normal, boring, human way.

I like villains that are truly convinced that they are the good guys and will be proven right once everything settles.

I like it even more when it turns out they were right.

Freddy Krueger. I feel like he was the first big one too.

Do the Gremlins count? They were pretty funny.

Ming the Merciless is hilarious. I'm not sure intentionally comedic fully, but the actor clearly hammed it up.

Hades from Hercules Disney version.

Forge Fitswilliam from Honor Among Thieves was hilarious. Definitely a comedic villain. I actually like Sofina even more, but even though the movie is comedic, she's not really comedic.

Sideshow Bob was honestly the best part of the Simpsons.

Sarris from Galaxy Quest is fun.

Every role Tim Curry has every played.

I don't like the movie's choice of having him get obese in the end as a cheap fat joke - didn't find it offensive, just not funny and kind of dumb - but White Goodman in the Globo Gym era.

He was just the perfect example of what dudebros obsessed with alpha male tough guy gym grindset bullshit actually come off like IRL. Absolutely cringe and also totally accurate

It is really sad that I almost wish I have Covid. At least then I might be able to get a day off. But not Covid. Still some kind of infection in my lungs, though, that is making doing anything at all exhausting. Going to be a long few days.
