Apply for things that are not your superniche field too. Bars, restaurants, and Amazon are always hiring. And those do respond to dropping a paper resume off. They don't keep 'em on file, first person in the door with a resume when the manager needs new staff gets the job. So your parents are right, print it off, put the shoeleather on the sidewalk, and get off your ass and get a job. Any job.

"Get any job" isn't necessarily helpful advice when we don't know what their field even is, they might not be able to do just any job.

Dude, don't be one of Those Boomers. OP said they're already branching out in terms of job applications, which is the sensible approach. Advising them to desperately apply to any job that will take someone with a pulse is insulting, given you don't know their situation or what they need.

And come on, that part about printing off a job application is laughable. Are YOU gainfully employed right now? What do you do for a living? Did you get this job by printing off a job application and handing it some rando working at your current employer?

Do better.
