Re: Vent - anti-technology parents

My folks, in the 60's, have apparently given up. I tell them to switch to Firefox and they want me to come over and do it for them. What has happened? How do I avoid this as I age?!?!

This drives me crazy, especially with my dad. My mom never had a connection to tech and is fairly clueless but she learned to do the basics with a laptop and her phone.
My dad actually HAS some tech background and does know some things but he's sometimes so clueless about certain things that I have to suspect he's just being wilfully obtuse. He's had access to the internet ever since it was available for home use but he still doesn't (want to) understand that when he has an issue, the first thing you can do is google that issue for troubleshooting. He just prefers to whine about it constantly without trying to even look it up and fix it.

DA
Basically same. My mom is okay with tech.
My father is just ridiculously bad. At this point it's unbelievable because we had internet since fucking 90s

My sympathies. I think people just get anxious about learning new things as they get older. Not everyone, of course. But unless your parents have some serious cognitive issues, they can certainly manage switching to Firefox. They just... don't want to. It's a kind of learned helplessness.
