Re: Making peace with Trump voters in our lives (or not)

I'd also find it incredibly hard to forgive and/or reconcile. I'd have to ask myself in coldly pragmatic terms... do I need these people for something? Money, a potential kidney/liver donation down the line? How much do I have to have them in my life? I don't keep people in my life just because we share ties of flesh and blood, mind you, so "because they're family" doesn't fly with me if there are good reasons why I wouldn't tolerate such behavior from strangers.

And keep in mind that even if you forgive them, that doesn't mean you have to keep them in your life. I'd actually advise caution. You might think they're good people, but at minimum, they've demonstrated some extremely poor, damaging judgment, or a huge deficit in their intelligence and ability to reason and empathize. That's the best possible interpretation. How many opportunities do you want to give them to make bad decisions that will harm you, is what I'm asking? Because now you know you cannot trust them to NOT do that.

The worst interpretation is that they're not as good as you think, which is why they voted for a rapist felon who incites violence and hatred.
