I hate ship names and especially spirk; they gave birth to slash so they *should* be kirk/spock or k/s (someone somewhere brought up the fact that it was called "the premise" and it sounds twee but also fun)

besides, kock is better

I believe "Spirk" is a somewhat natural product of internet fandom, and perhaps even the brief period of time when Tumblr was the main fandom hub. Google gives more reliable results for portmanteaus than for name/name, or at least it used to, back when it gave reliable results at all. Also, Tumblr tags with slashes in them don’t work, and I remember seeing Kirk/Spock fans specifically lamenting the fact that they couldn't use the traditional ship name.
