I joined a writers' Discord network bur the crowd was rather quiet. I started my own network, intent on inviting a couple friends who were also struggling with their writings. Before I could invite either of them, one of them basically brushed me off when I wanted to talk to them about my writing. I confronted them on brushing me off, and they followed it up with the old "sorry you felt that way, here are paragraphs about how it's not my fault and in fact it's your fault because you're a terrible person and you should be grateful that I even talk to you".

I never invited anyone into that Discord and a while later I left the writers' network I was in, cut contact with my friend, and I haven't logged back in Discord since 2023.

I should have just done what OP does.
