I didn't think they could improve on the original West Side Story film. They did.

The Thing (1982) is a remake that passed the original so much that most people don't know it's a remake.

I really enjoyed The Ring remake. I think they did a great job with it. I also think The Dawn of The Dead remake is the best movie Zack Snyder has ever done.

For non horror, I really enjoyed the True Grit from 2010.

I enjoyed Ocean's 11 and all the sequels. Not really sure if The Mummy counts because it's so different from the original.

Homeward Bound is so beloved, rightfully so, that it isn't widely known as a remake.

Battlestar Galactica. A remake that made something completely new. Love that. The Disney live action Cinderella is great.

12 Monkeys took an okay movie and made an amazing tv show.

The 90s Mummy movies count as a remake, right? They were great. Well, the first two.

I like High Society better than The Philadelphia Story.

And sorry to the person who made Secret #1, but I think The Fly (1986) and The Blob (1988) are better, scarier (definitely grosser) than the 1958 originals.

Oh, and Freaky Friday (2003).

Most of these y'all have already mentioned, but...

-The Birdcage
-The Fly
-Homeward Bound (even though I'd SEEN the original in addition to reading the book, I totally forgot about it until someone else mentioned it here-- the remake and its sequel were HUGE for me as a kid. Going to have to rewatch them sometime when I'm just looking for something familiar to put on while I work)
-Invasion of the Body Snatchers (70s version)
-Little Shop of Horrors (another one where people tend to forget the original!)
-My Bloody Valentine (I wouldn't call it a guilty pleasure, but I wouldn't say it's overall an *improvement* on the original, necessarily, just that I really did enjoy it)
-The Ring (I don't think this was an improvement, but it WAS my introduction-- if it wasn't for the remake, I wouldn't have gotten into real J-horror until much later, so I do have a fondness for it)
-The Thing
-West Side Story

Surprised I haven't seen anyone mentioning The Parent Trap (which wasn't a bad remake but I admittedly prefer the Hayley Mills version)

Ngl, I do like how Hammer Horror films try very hard not to be similar to the Universal monster horror movies for titles like Frankenstein and the Dracula series.

There is only one true 100% perfect remake in existence, that takes nothing away from the original, while still adding to it.

Resident Evil 1. None of the others. Just the first one.

Solving a love triangle

Spoilers for Doctor Odyssey as a whole and S01E06 in particular below:

























***SPOILERS***
You know that thing where there’s a canon love triangle and some people say (seriously or tongue-in-cheek) that a threesome would solve everything? Doctor Odyssey just did it. The show started with a love triangle, then backed off it some, but there were still hints of it. And, as of the latest episode, it’s a threesome instead of a triangle. I had actually had that thought, but am floored a network show, even if it is a Ryan Murphy one, seriously went there.

The show leans hard into its cheesiness, so I understand if it’s not your thing, but if you want to watch a hot shipboard doctor get it on with his hot nurses, you might want to check it out. The doctor is Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek, Fringe), Phillipa Soo (Hamilton) and Sean Teale (Skins) are the nurses.

Vent about chronic pain

I am having the worst pain flare up that has lasted 3 days now. I have been waking up every 4ish hours when the painkillers wear off and my alarm is about to go off to get up and get ready for work and I just want to cry. I have no idea what is wrong with me, but I am just so sick of being in pain. It has been over a year of this off and on but this is definitely the worst and longest it has been. I hate this stupid country where I work 50hrs a week and still can't afford health insurance or afford to go to the er or urgent care.

If it is still this bad at the end of the work day I may just have to suck it up about being in debt and go to urgent care anyway.
