Is there a fandom presence on there? The Israel stuff icks me but the front page seems more like a Mastodon-like tech-oriented community.

Yes. There is an everything presence, albeit a very left leaning everything presence, on it. It is not tech orientated at all. Neither is Mastodon these days, George Takei is on that one FFS.
