On one hand #notallfemslashfans etc etc and you can be a fan of F/F without making that your whole life and fandom fixation so much that you have to fight others over it.

On the other hand I am similarly wary of anyone who makes "being a ____ fan" their first and foremost and core identity. All of them act like this, no matter what the fill in the blank thing they're obsessed with is because if you mess even mildly with their object of obsession they feel like you're attacking them because they have gone too deep with identifying and/or have no other identity besides liking a thing.

Sigh. As someone who exclusively ships F/F, I feel exactly the same way, and it sucks.

It may have something to do with the fact that femslash is by far the smallest of the three big Shipper Categories, and a kind of hyper-defensiveness about having spent much of its history being ignored, overlooked, forgotten, thrown into the 'gal pals'/'friendship goals' pit, etc... but jesus louisus, modern femslashers are insufferable.

Generally speaking, any subset of fandom who identifies solely through their shipping preferences (i.e., "femslasher", as opposed to "fanperson who ships F/F") are best avoided.

I'm seeing this a lot in the Dungeon Meshi fandom lately. I'm not a huge femslash fan but I was totally fine passively shipping Farcille but the way some of the shippers are behaving towards some of the other ships really soured the ship for me.

I'm tired of f/f fandom feeling so very "eat your vegetables" to me. If I don't have a f/f ship I'm a bad woman/lesbian/whatever, even though irl I share a mortgage with my female-bodied partner.

I'm usually someone who does ship femslash ships (also slash and straight ships... I'm just a shipper in general), but NEVER the most popular ones. I'm luckily when it's the second most popular ones... but usually it's more the niche ones.

Thing is, the ones of the most popular ships scare me. Swan Queen, Clexa and Faberry back then I stayed away from especially (and Brittana, but that one was actually canon... funnily enough I shipped Santana and Quinn, ooops). Idk I can ignore rabid slash fandoms much easier somehow. Maybe because they don't come with the thinly veiled accusation of being a bad female fan if you don't ship them? Idk.

I 99% focus on female characters and f/f ships and I've taken a huge step back from fandom roughly 5 years ago because I've noticed these types sprung up. I dunno why they're this toxic - I notice a lot of them are very young (the oldest are early 30s which is still young), they mostly consume "junk food" media like gachas, and they primarily operate on toxic spaces on Twitter or Tumblr.

What bugs me about them is that they spend most of their time complaining about lack of f/f and how it's misogyny and/or lesbophobia instead of making their own content. Or even supporting creators who do make that stuff, for those who aren't good at fic or writing. They treat f/f and female characters as something you "need" to do as faux-activism and not because you like them. Or they participate in the trend of headcanoning canon male characters as women, which... Fine? They're fictional, but I'm not gonna care about a canon m/f ship just because you headcanon one as a transgirl or whatever, you can't say "the fujos" suck or only care about men when you're turning male characters you like into girls solely for artificial political purity.

So many conversations in several fandoms I've seen go:
"I wish there was more f/f! Those darn fujos only care about guys!"
"What about [insert f/f ship]? I like that."
"Uh, isn't that problematic? We have better taste than that. Fujos are into male abuse and that's bad, himejoshi are much more pure."
(Speak for yourself, I'd love more dark femslash.)

Or:
"Why is there such little f/f?"
"I write it, and I like it, but I stopped because I've gotten harassed because I wrote a ship that was arbitrarily considered problematic or I also have written m/m."
"You deserved it, you give us a bad name."

I swear most of them are modern political lesbians with how they treat living lesbians with different opinions or preferences in fiction like garbage.

Oof, I've had this from people who followed me whenever I take part in femslash February and got mad at me when I had posted m/m works during or after the month. It got so bad that I had to turn off my messages on Tumblr and I'm planning to do one last fslash February next year and be done with it for good.

Maybe it's just where I hang out, but I see the most fury/berating of fans over f/f from transfem fans. I mean, I get it, the whiplash that has to come with "yayyyy I finally get to play in the sandbox with the other gir--- wait, what?" when they realize that m/m is waaaaaayyyy more popular, even among cis lesbians in fandom. "Let's all pretend we're dudes" is probably even triggering to some of them, which is understandable and sympathetic.

OTOH, they have absolutely no idea the staggering amount of baggage that comes with being afab, and how freeing it can be to jettison the weight of physical and cultural expectations to pretend one is the Default Human, even if only for a little one. All the twitter threads haranguing cis women for their ~internalized misogyny~ and demanding they write more femslash is not going to change that, sorry.

It's the afab fans who produce the glum fanart where two random female characters are slapped together side-by-side holding hands with a child character somewhere in the picture in most desexualized way possible for the Yuri Duty Social Credit Achievement lmao. Pling! You may now create ten more Yaois before your next Yuri is required to decontaminate your timeline from joy and pleasure.

I really don't like animal protagonist series, no matter where they are on the scale. Aggretsuko, Disney, Sled Dogs, etc.... Even in One Piece, the Mink stories were the most boring to me. But for some reason Beastars was absolutely riveting. I genuinely thought I would hate it, but read the whole thing in like 3 days. Weird.

Yeah, that looks kinda like those cheap bootleg things. I'm generally tired of all the chibi merch for this and the lack of high quality proper figurines (not that I'd buy it at this point because I've been out of the fandom for a while but back in the day I would have seriously been tempted if a good quality figurine had existed back then).
