Oh man, I haven't thought about Dear America and Royal Diaries in so long. The Dear America book about the girl living in the 60s has some sections in it that still stick out. Those books are a blessing and a curse because they were so good, and I can't find any adult historical fiction that quite hits the same notes those books did.

Those books are a blessing and a curse because they were so good, and I can't find any adult historical fiction that quite hits the same notes those books did.

I think it's partly because DA in particular really focused on the day-in-the-life, rather than focusing on warfare or making it all about romance between two protags.

I read the 1960's one while the debates about Iraq were going on, so it really hit close to home.
