Re: 48hrs without your phone
(Anonymous) 2024-11-20 01:52 am (UTC)(link)I always have my InReach. Doesn’t mean I do much with it but I do have tracking on when I’m in the trail and I send a message to my family when I reach camp. And the thing is always hanging off my shoulder strap no matter what some people say about how it looks like I’m playing army; that is the safest place to carry it so if something happens I can hit that SOS button or if I’m incapacitated or dead, the hapless hikers or hunters who stumble over me can see it and hit that button. During my last hike there are signs posted at the trailhead for anyone going off trail to look for signs of an experienced hiker who went missing almost 15 years ago. It was like a month before anyone had any idea where in the world he was and no trace of him has ever been found other than his car parked at the trailhead. This is the same place where a Cessna went down in the 90s and wasn’t found for almost ten years despite them knowing pretty much exactly where it went down. I don’t bother with the InReach if I’m at like a state park but mostly I’m in the wilderness and I love it there but I want to return to my family after.
