I don't know how to NOT fandom hop. I see a new thing (or a new-to-me thing) and my brain lights up like a suburban street in early December and I just want to take those lil guys and put them in situations. Really rotate them around in my brain with some grit until I can see shinny colors. Put them, a twig, and three leaves in a mason jar with holes in the lid and SHAKE. Roll the setting up into a pillow fort and nap, comfy and drooling on on the canon.

I have very little control over the process. I am a boat on the sea, watch how I squee.

That said, I bet you have a lot of fun being an expert in things. Really growing and changing alongside the thing you fandom.

I'm in the middle, I guess. I do move on to new things, but I still have a space to enjoy fanworks from the older fandom at times.

I just joined a fandom last year that was slowly winding down (the series concluded) and it bums me out!

Same. I love new fandoms, but I'm also currently reading a Captain America fic right now. >.

I fandom hop, but not that much. I usually have one or two new fandom/pairing a year for which I consume a lot of fics/draw stuff in the span of a couple of months, but my main fandom remain always the same. (Fucking Supernatural and destiel, lol save me from this hell)

I have other fandoms I've hopped into in the past that I'm still quite fond of, but I'll usually rotare back to them after a few years.

I don't get serial fandom hoppers. Especially my friends who are all 30+ years old. I have no time to follow all these new trends! I have a friend who get into almost all the juggernaut fandom/ships and it's quite confusing.
Like this year my "fandom hop" was really getting into eastern promises and Kirill/Nikolai. It's a tiny tiny fandom... I have no time and mental bandwidth for anything else.

I much prefer getting really deep into my preferred IP and it's fandom culture, hence why a shown that spanned 15 season and still has an active fandom is where i will probably die.

I have absolutely zero control over what I get fannish about. I do tend to hyperfocus on one thing at a time, but if something grabs my fandom hindbrain then off I go.

Sometimes there are multiple fandoms that are entertaining.
Sometimes one fandom - despite my huge love for it - is dying/dead so all there is is a new fandom. Sometimes the source/creators kills enthusiasm. Sometimes it's the fandom.

I left my most recent fandom due to personal issues with a friend, but for the past year every few months I keep hearing horrific things being uncovered about the fandom on various levels and...boy, am I glad not to be in that fandom anymore, even if I left for non-related reasons.

I almost never abandon a fandom (exception: when the fandom has either done something irreparable, or if I have a really bad friend breakup) but since I am bad at consuming video content, I go where the attention of my friends goes. I used to publish regular recs lists, since I was working off the personal recs and output of my friends, but my infrastructure for reading has changed and I hardly do that anymore.

So I am still reading ST:TOS (my first ever fandom, acquired 30+ years after it went off the air), still working through Teen Wolf recs (I have at most seen gifs), trying to claw myself out from under MCU, and giving both middle fingers to Joanne as I plow through various trans headcanons and POC recasting of two out of the Golden Trio. Plus reading a steady stream of books. I am inherently polyfannish, it just occasionally looks like part of the monofandom if I'm only getting recs into that one recently.

I move on when my brain moves me. I get no control over it.

I don't fandom hop in the sense that I don't jump onto each new thing as it turns up and gets attention in fandom, but if something comes along and my brain clicks with it then I will jump into that fandom because I like it.

But then I don't discard my old fandoms or abandon them completely, they go into a pile of favourite things that perhaps go on the back burner for a while but then I'll suddenly just be into them intensely at a random point as time goes on. It happens often enough that I can rely on it.

My "fandom hopping" usually happens once I feel like I've gotten everything I wanted out of a fandom. Sometimes that's weeks/months, sometimes it's years. It all just depends on a) what I wanted out of the fandom that I didn't get from the canon itself, and b) how large/active the fandom is.

I am a multifandomer. I have been since another fandom tempted me while I was still in my first. I have newer fandoms with ongoing canon, I have older fandoms that may get new content at some point, I have older fandoms where I pay zero attention to the newer content and just pretend it ended at the spot I liked, I have older fandoms with closed canons, and I have older fandoms I have become largely disinterested in but then my interest will suddenly get tweaked by a mention or a clip or just my brain tossing up a random 'hey, remember when..'. Right now, I have tabs up for four separate fandoms, along with a tab for a multifandom fic challenge.

So, I guess I don't fandom hop, so much as play fandom hopscotch, adding more tiles in different combinations to make the experience more fun, going back and forth along the court with my whim as the marker.

People like different things. Or sometimes they grow tired of one fandom and find another. It's not that hard to understand. :)

I've been in the same main fandom from age 12 till a couple years ago (I'm mid 30s). There have been times I've also been into a secondary fandom, but never with the same intensity as the main one. The only reason I seem to have finally mostly lost interest is that there have been some big changes in my life and I got a lot more involved in rl activities, which kinda resulted in losing interest in being strongly involved with fandom altogether. So yeah, I don't know how to fandom hop either.
