They were about $3.50 at Aldi. First, I'm going to cook some angelhair pasta. While that's happening, I'm going to sautee a generous amount of garlic (because I love garlic) in olive oil, then add in a can of fire-roasted tomatoes (also from Aldi) and about 1/3 cup of white wine. At this time, I also add in some extra basil and oregano. Bring to a simmer and sort of mash up the diced tomatoes a bit, let cook about 5 minutes. Then turn the heat to medium high and dump in the frozen mussels, put the lid on and follow package directions, which is to "cook on high for 3-4 minutes, then reduce heat to a simmer for 2-3 minutes". Times are approximate, IME it takes a wee bit longer and you want to be careful not to overcook.
Mussels are fished out of the sauce and put in a bowl, pasta goes right into the remainder of the sauce and mixed in. I add a ton of grated pecorino romano or parmesan and serve, with mussels ladled over the top.
