TW: Pet Illness

(Anonymous) 2024-11-22 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
My dad is a “it’s just a dog” kinda guy. I’m overdue getting in touch with him because I fear I will lose control when he inevitably says all the shittiest possible things about my sick dog. Baxter is probably terminal and we won’t know for weeks and we’re arranging oncology appointments, physical therapy if he has a chance to make it, hospice care and in home euthanasia if he doesn’t. The stress is unreal and inside I’m broken into a zillion tiny pieces because he’s my baby.

I'm so sorry, nonny. I can't with the "it's just a dog", people. I don't know why people think it's admirable to brag about their lack of empathy for animals as well as the people who care about them, but yeah.

If you want to be spiteful, I'd remind him that you're taking notes about his behavior and will act the same way when he's old and sick and nearing the end of his own life.

Heh thanks that’s cheered me a little. You’re bang on about bragging about lack of empathy. I just don’t get it. Dad actually is old and damn near the end of his own life. It’s made him even more dismissive and bullyish, or maybe I just wasn’t aware of him being like that because my mother was the main one I talked to until she passed a few years back. Idk I’m just glad not everyone is like him and particularly that I’m not.

I'm sorry, nonny. I cut someone out of my life for being like that about my cat and I have never regretted it. To hell with your dad! Spend your time and energy on your dog, someone who is actually precious.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. Please give Baxter some cuddles and scritches from this anon, and for you, my sympathies and best wishes.

As for your dad... yeah, that's unhelpful and cruel. I don't know why people go out of their way to piss on someone's love for animals. Like even if you're not a dog person, do you seriously lack the compassion for the human being who's torn up about their sick pet? People can be such assholes.
