My family gatherings lately always include someone "innocently" bringing up the weather this season (I think in some cases it really is innocent, because the weather is a very basic conversation topic, but it depends on who does it...) and a small group of specific relatives using it as a springboard to go into climate change denial and not so subtly reminding the rest of us NOT to do anything to help the environment because it's against God's will.

Frankly it's mostly just embarrassing. I understand being religious about things like the afterlife and existence of souls, even God... things that science can't really disprove anything about. But believing God, if he exists, is manipulating the climate? When there is all this scientific evidence right there? That's like saying boldly and truthfully as an adult that Santa Claus brings your Christmas presents. I want to die of cringe whenever they start.

Why would God manipulate the weather...? If your relatives ever explained.
