To be fair, in the current age, it is possible for queer ships to become canon, which means that it is a real possibility. That means that corps can dangle over that possibility over queer people's heads.

I try to be cautious whenever the narrative of "this insane fandom is claiming that they got QUEERBAITED! they're just upset their ship didn't become canon!" is pushed. It typically results from misogyny ("hysterical women (and people of marginalized genders)") and attempts to hide the wrongdoing of the media company. Lest we forget, Destiel fans were mocked (including by the creators of the show!) for YEARS before Supernatural's finale aired, where... well, I'm sure you don't need reminding.

Unless a show starts with several queer characters, I don't see any possibility of a queer ship becoming canon. And there is like one show right now that I can think of this happening and that's 9-1-1. Has there really been that many shows where a queer ship has become canon?

Yes, but not usually the main character unless they start off queer. Even cartoons now!

DA

The U.S. version of "Ghosts" had Isaac and Nigel become canon.

SPOILERS FOR THE CURRENT SEASON
(Mind, right now they're going through some stuff, to say the least, but given it's a sitcom and they've been exploring their relationship for the past four seasons in various ways, I figure this current messiness between them won't last very long.)

Good Omens and Our Flag Means Death are two of the big ones from recent years. I'm unclear on whether the Succession fandom is actually delusional or if something's been happening there too. Also several cartoons, like Adventure Time and She-Ra.

Legend of Korra.

It didn't really become canon in the show by my definition and I stand by believing I'm correct, but everyone else apparently knew as soon as they held hands at the end that they were a couple, so. And there are the comics. Keeping in mind this show was originally supposed to only have one season and that ended with a a het ship.

Keeping in mind, as well, that the finale aired before gay marriage was even legalized.

The reason that gets said anon is because the kinds of fans who insist that they’re being queerbaited are often obnoxious as hell loud and hyper aggressive to the level of harassing those who don’t ship what they do, and dare I say getting acting damn misogynistic and homophobic themselves.
