I know you're being sarcastic, but I think Rowling enjoyed all the praise and adoration she got for being so awesomely progressive. The fact that she didn't do much to earn it made no difference. It's easy to say "woo hoo yeah sure black Hermione!" and "Dumbledore was gay all alooooooong" and have your fans gush over you.

Her behavior since then looks pretty racist and transphobic, though.
