In theory, but it's the specific trappings of any particular sub-sub-sub-genre that are my yes/no line. Dragons, castles, elves, and dwarves? Hard pass, got Tolkien for that. Magic/superpowers? Yes. Hard science/space/aliens? Not so much. Interesting takes on a hero's journey? Maybe. Which is why I respond easily to manga versus books or movies, because they aren't as strict about what defines fantasy or scifi or horror, it's usually a mishmash with plenty to like and fewer nos.
