What do you like about Porco Rosso?? I find it kind of tonally jarring in a way that's hard for me to get into, and ultimately leaves me feeling like something is going over my head. I'm surprised when I hear people say it's their favorite Ghibli film. The sequence with the pilot afterlife has stayed with me ever since the first time I watched it, though, plus the music and scenery.

It's about an Italian man in Italy just prior to WW2. The only real thing you might be missing is it's about self-esteem, moving on and grief.

Well, it's beautiful. The almost fetishistic worship of early 20th C aviation, where you see tonally jarring, I see... I dunno how best to put this... Depth maybe? I see it having everything. Comedy, sincerity, action, romance, wrapped up in a relatable and understandable story about a man who is living out his self perception brought on by survivors guilt.

I just see it as the whole package.
