Re: Do you like sci-fi/fantasy?

Love love love sci-fi. SO MUCH. I love our current 'sci-fi' - NASA, the various missions in our solar system, our working toward the moon again, Mars, all that.
I love the idea of just being out there in space, traveling, finding worlds and other peoples. I love the really GOOD sci-fi that factors in actual science and makes the world so believable (see - most of CJ Cherryh, The Expanse), and even silly sci-fi, like the Guardians of the Galaxy type stuff, with everybody space-hopping all over and no issues with time or distance, just - boom, zoom through a wormhole or whatever.

I very much hate sci-fi that is a thin veneer over horror, and the really dystopian 'everything is shit even as we go to other planets' sci-fi depresses and bores me. I want FTL travel and aliens and cool guns!

I like fantasy very much, mostly magic-in-the-world type, including the stuff that was so popular in the 90s, the urban fairy-magic kind of stuff that Emma Bull and other wrote (see Borderland and Gossamer Axe and Thieves World and such). I don't like fantasy that has magic but it's so rare or hard or damaging that almost nobody can use it and/or it enacts some horrible price. That's also depressing and boring to me.
