I sort of get it. I personally don't have much attachment or investment in Wicked, but I often think about how when my sister says she hates Idina Menzel and all that goes through my head is Idina as Elphaba singing "Defying Gravity".

It makes me laugh but I know that some people cannot stand theatre kids and Wicked is one of those plays that bring out the most theatre kids of theatre kids.
