That one was amazing. Dream cast, too, their Toranaga was a legend. And the Spaniard the pilot he was friends with, and that schemeng Jesuit Alvito ... the list just goes on and on. I had such a ball reading the book and picturing the characters the way they were in the original miniseries.

There's a cool "interviews with actors" or "making of" sort of thing that gets bundled with some of the DVDs of it, too. I think I remember their talking about Toshiro Mifune not speaking hardly any English at that point and stalking around the set in character most of the time. XD;

But yeah - definitely seconding your recommendation about the book. It's spectacular. And, apart from all the parts that are just really satisfying writing, some of the sexual jokes were very special. The scene where they're conferring about whether to leave a live duck in his room because they're unsure of his sexual habits but attempting to inquire about them apparently gives offense - my immediate family could not breathe from how hard we were laughing.

I had read/heard that before! That sounds like fun, really; him being 'in character' would be so very fun (he was amazing).
