Sounds about right from what I've heard of BlueSky. Exactly the same self-righteous, self-congratulatory bullshit as Twitter, just from the opposite side of the political spectrum.

Nah that's not a bluesky thing, that's a politics and fandom thing. Those groups will always be self-righteous and self-congratulatory no matter where you go.

But at least it's avoidable on bluesky. I go there to follow lists of cool animal pictures and science news. I visit like once a week. Never seen a hint of drama or had the site push political tweets at me, while they're unavoidable on X even if you specifically do not follow politics and try to block all politics of any side. It's Elon's mouthpiece and you're functionally not allowed to block him because even if you do, the site finds other ways to push his tweets at you through other hashtags or rec lists.

The site itself is definitely different. Fandom, however, is fandom and switching sites didn't change them.

can support this 100% from my own experience on bluesky. if anything, for now it feels way better that Xitter for the lack of trolls and bots alone, and the engagement for the artists is higher than Xitter and insta both, so it's not all bad.
but bluesky does have a very common user politics of Make a list, ban that shit, which I guess antis in fandoms abuse, thought I never see that personally.

I've seen Bluesky referred to as "Gab for liberals", which sadly seems accurate from where I'm standing.

da

But yeah. And before Bluesky, that's about the vibe I was getting from Mastodon and all these trendy, fussy, boutique-y fediverse protocols in general and the (using the term loosely) social networks that coalesced around them. It's like, somehow, doing the legwork to keep a forum nice and running morphed into something that only people who fantasized about having a personal gated-community-cum-echo-chamber volunteer for.

Yes. There's trolls on there too.
