How about you give me a strong, independent female character who doesn't exist solely to screw and/or bother the Winchester boys, and I'll be more than happy to "deal" with her?

Oh, right. They already did that with Ellen and Jo, and the fans who love Anna and Ruby so much whined and bitched until they got written off the show for two seasons. Whoops.

This reads as if you're assuming the secret-poster doesn't like Ellen and Jo, which seems a bit unfair. She didn't say anything about them in her secret. (I personally love Ellen, Jo, Bela and Ruby, although I can take or leave Anna. Liking Ruby doesn't necessarily equal Ellen-and-Jo-hating!)

Well, she's basically saying that anyone who doesn't like Anna "can't deal with female characters", which I took offense to seeing as I hate Anna, but love Ellen and Jo.

And I don't mean to say that everyone who likes Anna and/or Ruby hates Ellen and Jo, just that a lot of (but not all) the same people who hated them and petitioned until they got taken off the show are the same ones who now love Anna and Ruby.

In what way is OP saying that? "The batshit fangirls" are a subset of fangirls and "batshit fangirls who can't deal with female characters" is a subset of batshit fangirls. In fact, OP was painting with a fairly narrow brush.

Don't forget that Jo also had feelings for one of the brothers. This is exactly why I have trouble enjoying the female characters in SPN. It's almost impossible to find one that exists for any purpose than to be 'shipped with/saved by and then 'shipped with one or both of the brothers. It's incredibly frustrating but I've already come to live with the fact that the show is misogynistic and I enjoy it anyways. Just not the female characters.

Oh, I know. I didn't mind it as much with her because she did have a life and aspirations beyond liking a Winchester boy; she did things on her own, off-camera, and had some serious ambition.

And I totally get what you mean. I had to come to terms with the misogyny of the show when they killed Pam off (and man was I pissed) - before that, I had almost been ready to defend them, but then they had to kill off the last independent woman on the show. So, nope, no dice, SPN.

I agree with this in that I didn't dislike Jo as much as the rest of the female characters in the show, I guess for me I was just irked with the same trend in the female characters.

Yeah... there's a lot of silliness in the misogyny but at least the show is still entertaining and I guess that's all I've got to look forward to xD

Yeah, I get what you mean, and I tend to agree. What I really would have liked to see, if I honestly thought the SPN writers would or could pull it off, would be to have Jo come back a couple years down the line, twenty times more badass and completely over Dean, lol.

There is. I'm actually not watching anymore, ha... I hated s4 so much that I couldn't sit through any more. I might change my mind at some point, but for right now... it's just so bad I can't watch, lol.
