I completely agree. I was really disappointed at the way Anakin was portrayed in AotC, such a selfish, petulant, arrogant control-freak, but I was frightened at how he was portrayed in RotS and the fact that she still loved him after what he did to her. Never mind that she sold herself way short marrying such a nutjob, she deserved a loving, caring relationship and she got the exact opposite, and from the moment they confessed their feelings to each other it was always going to be that way: destructive.

It sickens me as a portrayal of a 'timeless' or 'classic' relationship, frankly.

I think, in terms of destructive 'love' stories that are considered 'classic' and 'timeless', this one is even worse than Twilight. At least Edward never physically abused Bella.

see, Its a really destructive relationship, I agree, but I wouldnt say it was as bad as bella and edward. no.

With bella and edward, they couldnt even stand to be apart from each other, and if they ever where, they would 'feel' like they were dieing. *coughwtfcough*

At least with padme and anakin, they could be apart for long periods of time, and not think about killing themselves just because they were away from the 'love of their life'

and then there's also some other differences between them, but I think thats the biggest one. So, I definitely agree that anakin and padme have a bad relationship (Ive never shipped them from the start lol), but worse than bella and edward from twilight? close, but no.

Edward did fuck bella up emotionally and mentally and personally, I see that as WAY worse than physically.

I do think that emotional abuse is horrible and I certainly would never say that mental or psychological problems aren't significant and debilitating, but come on. You can recover from emotional abuse. You can't recover from murder.

Well, to play the devil's advocate, I could point out that he didn't really kill her. He just gave her such deep emotion trauma that she lost the will to live because of it.
And that's too fucked up even for me.

sorry, I didnt know we were counting murder (honest, not trying to be sarcastic. I just didnt think about that) and if we do count it then yeah, I can go with that.

and I did think about that OP right after I posted it, and honestly I might just be a little more biased against twilight and that... 'relationship'. So when you say that, I cant help but think that bella and edward do have a worse relationship, but I can totally understand how you can see anakin and padme's as worse.

How about both are equally just as bad for different reasons? lol

and plus, not everyone can get over emotional abuse. Not everybody is that strong minded/sometimes the abuse is too great for them too handle and just accept eventually. some people are incapable of that.

No, you're right, not everyone can get over emotional abuse. I mean, I don't really think anyone just "gets over" anything that severe. I mean recovery more in the sense that one recovers from, say, an acute attack of encephalitis -- you get over the infection, death is no longer imminent, but maybe you spend the rest of your life with permanent neurological complications and a fear of sharing drinking glasses.
