Well... the pairing's canon, why the hell shouldn't I ship it?

Yes, Padme is a whiny, completely stupid bitch that falls for Annie and still loves him despite him "killing" her (she died as he turned into Vader, if I recall) and Annie is an insane, immature idiot that thinks that people can live forever, but it's canon, and important canon at that. If I didn't ship them then... uh, how the hell would 4, 5, and 6 technically exist?

Note, I like 4, 5, and 6 better (six is my favorite), I just don't understand why people hate this pairing so much when it's essential to the story. =/ I mean yeah I can ship Obi-Wan and Annie all day long, but Annie ended up with Padme and she was a dumb ass for still thinking he was awesome. Deal.

I think when people say they hate the pairing, they are saying they hate how it was written, not that they wish they never got together, because, yeah, then no Luke and Leia.

Ah, now that I can understand. The writing wasn't great, but it's the prequels, they were never going to stand up to the originals anyways. :P

This ship disgusts me because of the abuse=love undertones. A husband abusing his wife is not sexy, even in a movie. It's an unfortunately too real issue. I'm not saying their relationship didn't happen. Luke and Leia are proof that it did. What I don't get is how people can like this pairing.

I only like the pairing because it's canon. I really can't fathom Padme and Annie otherwise because of the age and maturity difference. They were cute at first, but once Annie turned Vader and began to do the whole "abusing" thing I wrote Padme off as an idiot and figured she'd move on to better pastures, like Obi-wan.

But no, she was as dumb as Annie was and "died" when he did. Blech.

So yeah, when you explain it that way I understand it. Abuse does not = love. Once Annie did that Padme shoulda left his sorry ass.

If you think so poorly of both of the characters, then why would you bother shipping them? There's a difference between acknowledging a pairing and shipping a pairing. I'm not saying that if you didn't like the pairing you need to go full tinhat and pretend that parts of canon didn't occur; but when you say "I ship it," to me that means "I like the thought of these characters together, I support their relationship and I enjoy thinking about it."

It's okay to be grateful for the end result of their relationship (i.e. Luke & Leia) without thinking that the relationship itself was healthy or a good thing. It's a peculiar fact of the way the universe works that good things sometimes come about as a result of bad things. That doesn't mean people have to wish for bad things to happen, or retroactively condone bad things which happened in the past because something good later came about as a result. I mean, just as a hyperbolic example, Slaughterhouse Five is one of my favorite books; that doesn't mean I'm glad the city of Dresden was firebombed in World War II.

You're right. When I read the secret I thought of it more as the OP hates the pairing and they should never have gotten together in the first place, which obviously causes problems because of Luke and Leia.

So I guesss I don't necessarily ship it, but as you said, I acknowledge their relationship. Gotta have it to have the kids even if it does come from a whiny mom and a crazy dad.
