Reminds me of a girl from Canada I met at camp who insisted that Virginia was pronounced Virg-eye-nia. Didn't care that it wasn't even her country.

There are so many of these. And it's kind of fifty-fifty whether the people doing it will react to the suggestion that it's said some other way with "that's what I said, [and repeats mispronunciation]" or with some sort of insistence that, no, their way is definitely right.

Off the top of my head, I can think of one guy who had a monologue in theater, and a ton of trouble believing that "naive" should be pronounced like "nah-eev" as opposed to like a word that would rhyme with "knife," a different guy who pronounced "geodesic" more like "gio-DEEZ-ick," and one British transfer student - also in theater - who mangled "Duchess" with the kind of over-pronunciation that probably made our teacher fear for her job ... into Dutch-Ass.
