In my day, the first kid to find the erotica online showed it to all their siblings. It wasn't a gender-segregated thing any more than discovering slugs would have been. And given that TV Tropes references fanfiction and skews male, I'm sure a lot of millenial-age straight men know about the AO3. Whether they post stories is a different question, though.
