Sonic is, by all accounts, an eco-terrorist. He was created with the idea in mind that the big oil companies (represented by Eggman) needed someone to combat them. This was back in the 90s when the reduce-reuse-recycle and worries about the planet were at its peak (see Captain Planet).

Sonic is not your classic definition of a hero like, say, Superman. He has his own set of creeds and goes wherever the wind takes him. I think SEGA has lost sight of that eco-terrorist side of him now that it seems people don't actively worry about the planet anymore like we did back then.

And Ian Flynn is a classic fic writer given the reins of being head of the IDW team. I remember when he went by Ian Potto and had a ringtail possum as his Sonicsona. He hasn't changed since then and has likely lost sight of what made Sonic great in the first place - busting up all those nuclear power plants that Eggman ran and making the world a better place for animals.

I don't understand the big deal with top/bottom being a big factor in ship dynamics. Full stop.

Example: posts that say, "Erm, THIS is who y'all headcanon as a top?", showing a screenshot of the character crying. Because people who like to penetrate others can't cry a lot, apparently?

I especially don't get the whole 'ship name order' thing. Double-especially when it's a nonsexual work. "It's tagged as X/Y when it's clearly Y/X!" Then I look and it's a comic where they're doing nothing more explicit than play-flirting. Why would who penetrates who matter in this scenario??

"It's because who tops and who bottoms affects the whole dynamic of the relationship, at all times!! Even in nonsexual scenarios, they don't step out of their roles!" Uh-huh. And dogs are boys, cats are girls, and strawberry milk comes from strawberry cows.

High-drama, over-the-top dark and gritty AUs that wax philosophical about how life and humanity sucks bore me.

Low-drama, cozy, mundane AUs that wax philosophical about how life is meaningful and humanity is great bore me too.

But I love when they're mashed together and end up in over the top dark and gritty AUs that entirely seriously has characters going to high-drama cut-throat murder and blackmail over mundane stuff like which cozy cafe's coffee tastes better.

Wish we had more of those.

You're not wrong. The older I get the more I look at people who have made "anime" their identity in the same way potheads make weed their identity and sports fans make their home team their identity, and they're the personification of glass houses and throwing stones. I used to go to anime cons all the time over the last 15 years, up to 7 or 8 a year, but now I don't recognize the scene as inclusive or friendly at all. It's a bunch of idiots punching down, it's cool to be a jackass. Guess it's time I retire and start going to Trekkie cons instead....oh wait....
