I haven't in a long time, but I'm on break, and my husband is back at work tomorrow, and I think the dog and I need some time apart lol.

Oh man, I used to plan days off around movies I could see by myself, lol. Nothing more awesome than an empty theatre (or close to it), lounging in a reclining leather seat with chicken nuggets and herbal tea (or an icee, depending on what I'm feeling), seeing an awesome movie on the big screen.

But I admit having a better theatre likely adds to the experience.

How do you get your preferred food and beverages inside?

Well, as I said, it's a better theatre, so it sells those types of snacks. (Even beer and pizza!) Yes, it's overpriced, but I go so infrequently these days that it doesn't bother me.

The most I'd try to sneak into theatre is maybe a box of candy.

Though I went to see Venom: The Last Dance, and when I bought my ticket I was the only sold seat so I chose middle/back row as always, and when I get there, someone had picked the seat next to mine.

NO ONE ELSE IN THE WHOLE THEATRE.

Like, you had to buy THAT seat? Not the row in front of me? :|

Yup! Though tbh I haven't in awhile. I used to all the time when I had a different schedule. I got out of work early and would go about once a week after work as a little treat to myself.

I did a couple of times. It was pretty awesome!
I also worked in a cinema theater for half a year and I got to see a dozen free movies, but almost never in their entirety because I watched them when getting off the shift. Not really the same thing as getting the ticket and going by myself, which was a far more pleasant experience.

Nowadays I don't go simply because my hearing got worse and loud music / lack of subtitles makes it unbearable for me. :( I miss it.

It is SO loud in cinemas. One reason my husband can't go with me is his sensory issues.

I used to when there were movies I wanted to see, but I haven't since the advent of theatres with recliners and booze. Which is odd, because I'm all into recliners and booze, but I just do not want to leave the house for a movie I'm lukewarm meh about seeing at all. I used to love going alone because I wouldn't let my friends' lack of interest stop me from seeing something I really really wanted to see in a theatre (e.g. Twister).

That said, if you're worried about solo moviegoing being weird? Don't. Get on out there and see what you want to see! Don't let the solo thing stop you, of all the mitigating factors in whether to go to a theatre, that's like lowest on the list. Pet your doggo and go outside, free to be your bad self.

Awww thank you, anon. I haven't been in ages for the same reason. Nothing I wanna see bad enough to leave my own recliner.

I attempted go see Midsommar by myself, because no friends wanted to see it and my partner really isn't a fan of horror. He insisted on coming along anyway because he didn't like the idea of me sitting in a cinema alone.

I had a blast, he looked very frazzled by the end.

Hahaha oh man. That's one of my favorite movies of the past decade. I bet it was awesome on the big screen. It didn't feel like horror to me. IDK. Not in the way Hereditary did. It felt almost uplifting and life-affirming, although given the subject matter, I think that's what makes it uniquely horrific. I shouldn't have been sitting there feeling like my culture was barbaric in comparison.

Yup. I'm not missing out on a movie just 'cause no one wants to go see it with me.

I prefer to go alone tbh. It’s nice seeing some movies with my husband but it requires a lot more planning than if I just go alone. Bonus points if I can go while he is home so I don’t have to crate my dog who hates being crated. That’s pure, unadulterated freedom for me right there. Just a few hours in another world without a single worry.

I used to go by myself a lot. Was going to go yesterday after brunching with a friend and I wasn't ready to go home yet, but didn't see any showings I was interested in seeing.

I haven't been to a theater in a while but, yes, I've been many times. I like the quiet so I pick the screenings with fewer people. Sometimes we're just like 3. It's awesome.

I prefer going alone tbh. You can easier drop it if you don't enjoy it, or cry more freely. You don't have a problem with liking and your company not etc.
But, saying this. Some movies are better with a company. Special showings, action movies, some cracky trash.
For example I hated Agr of Ultron, but it's been 10 years and I still have fun memories of leading my friend into a spring bog on a way home lol

Even to this day, I cherish the experience of seeing "The Avengers" with a sold out screening on a Saturday afternoon.

I don't, but then I don't really enjoy the movie theater experience in general... the volume is too loud, uncomfortable seats that give me backache, inconsiderate moviegoers, sticky floors, expensive tickets, you know the drill. I'd much rather watch media at home, on my own comfortable couch with snacks in reach.

Yeah, but I've only gone once by myself since lockdown - but that's mostly because it's a lot more expensive to go and there's not been much that I wanted to watch to justify the cost, especially when buying it on dvd is cheaper than going to the cinema (I did go to the cinema by myself after a crap birthday to cheer myself up).

Otherwise, before 2020 I went to the cinema by myself all the time.
