This is the first I've heard of this and... eww. Way to completely miss the point. Ian Flynn had a decent run with the IDW Sonic comics (even though the man can't write Tails to save his life), but this just screams nostalgia based cash grab that's lost sight of what makes Sonic who he is. He's not Superman nor does he need to be.

OP of the secret here. I believe that deep down, Flynn is getting tired of writing about a spiky blue hedgehog and wants to become a real writer™ by writing about real superheroes.
The crossover , in addition to being a blatant cash grab, is most likely Flynn's way of getting his foot in the door to become an actual superhero writer with the big dogs at DC.

It also doesn't help that apparently things aren't doing so hot at IDW publishing
