Sonic is, by all accounts, an eco-terrorist. He was created with the idea in mind that the big oil companies (represented by Eggman) needed someone to combat them. This was back in the 90s when the reduce-reuse-recycle and worries about the planet were at its peak (see Captain Planet).

Sonic is not your classic definition of a hero like, say, Superman. He has his own set of creeds and goes wherever the wind takes him. I think SEGA has lost sight of that eco-terrorist side of him now that it seems people don't actively worry about the planet anymore like we did back then.

And Ian Flynn is a classic fic writer given the reins of being head of the IDW team. I remember when he went by Ian Potto and had a ringtail possum as his Sonicsona. He hasn't changed since then and has likely lost sight of what made Sonic great in the first place - busting up all those nuclear power plants that Eggman ran and making the world a better place for animals.

DA - I thought Ian Potto sounded familiar. Got any links to his old fan stuff pre-IDW?

SA - I'm pretty sure he kept all his old stuff on TeamARTAIL which is now defunct. Not sure if he ever had a DA or anything in that regard or if he wiped it all before starting his professional career.
