Wait, really? That's lame. And there's really no reason to cut it in half. Makes it seem like a cashgrab.

Yup, they cut it. I wasn't going to watch anyway but this solidified it

They cut it because otherwise it would be five hours long. They refused to cut out plotlines and have stated they couldn't satisfyingly follow up Defying Gravity since it's meant to drop a curtain and nothing worked out--it was either too anticlimactic or felt too rushed.

Think of it as a year long intermission. They respected it enough to not cut out shit like the animals. Isn't that a good thing?

I think that shows a lack of skill in producing an adaptation. Moving from one medium to another always entails making cuts and changes. "We respected it too much" sounds like an excuse for not knowing how to go about it.

Not sure about this. Wicked isn't exactly a story I got passionate about, personally, but I can think of plenty of adaptations where "well, we had to make all these changes and leave tons of things out" just felt like people who didn't appreciate what made the original good cutting the story up in a formulaic way. And then slapping the same title as the unabridged work on it and expecting the good reputation of the one to carry the other.

Also, a lot of the time, the people making adaptations seem to have name recognition and prestige in the industry, but they don't approach work with time and undivided attention. It's like they're always in a big rush. And the quality of what they produce suffers. Aspects of the story that are original and don't have equivalents in a bunch of other stories are in particular danger of being misunderstood or thrown out, for instance. And often what's left is flattened into a samey-er thing than what the original had.

I'm not saying you've got any guarantee of having a better product when they want to sell it to you in two parts, though. Unfortunately not.

The movie is two and a half hours long as is, and by cutting it in half, it 1) ends on Defying Gravity and 2) the next movie will start after a time skip. Makes perfect sense to me. I've seen it and if they had tried to cram the entire thing into one movie, it either would have been way too rushed or way too long.
