(Anonymous) 2025-01-03 01:57 am (UTC)(link)I do remember there were always a few extremely boring books written by people who thought kids should act and talk like all wisdom came from The Grown-Ups and the answer to any actual problem was to go running to them. Just like there were always a few extremely boring books rehashing the least obscene parts of the bible, "aimed at children" ... and the only kids who willingly read them were the ones whose parents insisted they were only allowed to read that.
I thought censorship was an abuse of power back then, and I still do.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-03 02:31 am (UTC)(link)I do remember stuff from the '80s where children weren't all alone but they were specific to my country and there were very few of them so that wouldn't help. Most cartoons I watched as kid were anime and focused on teens or young adults rather than kids. I don't remember any character being particularly smart XD

(Anonymous) 2025-01-03 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)I do see media where kids go to adults for advice or help. And either the adult offers advice and the kids figure it out themselves or they help and lead the kids toward the right direction.
Thise sorts of depiction teach kids that they can go to adults for help but the narrative is always for the kids to make the choices.
And the depictions of adults being useless and kids are the smart ones is to help kids deal with kids.
We know kids have little to no control in their lives so they can often feel like adults won't help them or get them.
It's good for kids to feel like they do have agency and power and the knowledge to be the one to solve the problem.
I would hate the sort of media Secret OP talks about.
