Re: Original works you read/saw *after* seeing an adaptation

Anne of Green Gables and LotR stand out to me. Both cases I was bored and never finished because I felt the adaptations were so close I wasn't really getting anything out if reading the books and I already enjoyed the movies. Very controversial opinion for both highly beloved books so not something I usually share!

Big LoTR book fan here and honestly? I get it. I love pouring over those books, and the Middle Earth lore and stories in general, but Tolkien's writing style really isn't for everyone and even without that sometimes a story doesn't click.

I love the books and movies the exact same just in slightly different ways and imo no reasonable fan should ever shit on you for not really getting into the books, we all gel with different things. :)

NAYRT, but I appreciate your understanding! I've always felt guilty for not getting into the LOTR books.

AYRT.

Awwww, don't feel guilty anon it's not something you can help. I love geeking out over Middle-Earth with other fans, but if someone just isn't into it then that's cool too, we'll find something else to talk about. :)

Like for me for 'not getting it' would be Star Wars, I find the films half-way fun at best and cannot get into it like others and while there's a little FOMO on my end when there's new content I'm also okay with not being into that part of pop-culture. Trying to force interest is worse and I'd rather watch from afar while SW fans have their fun.

Same here with AoGG. I actually just read the first 3 books last year. They were engrossing, and I wondered why my preteen self didn't think so.

I do prefer LOTR movies to the books.
