Re: Secrets you don't want to make...

I might roll my eyes at the Youtubers I'm watching being sponsored by the usual 15 companies, but I know they have bills to pay etc. BUT where I draw the line are when they start peddling finance apps or apps that supposedly delete your data from the internet (Rocketmoney, Sofi etc).

I'm not someone who follows people who peddle obvious scams or online casinos, so I'm always taken aback when these (to me) reasonable people start talking about apps that need you to put in so many, if not all, of your sensitive (bank) data and give them permission to end (aka alter) contracts for you.

Maybe these apps are safe. Maybe they genuinely think they're good apps. I still think it's irresponsible. At least with the usual sponsors you only lose the money you paid for a possibly crappy product/mobile game.

The Honey scandal will probably not be the first and maybe not the worst one.

I've been disappointed by so many creators I love watching in the recent weeks. Please go back to telling me how much you love Raid Shadow Legends, okay?

NGL I think you’re a dick for submitting this wall of text. You could have at least tried to boil your word vomit down to a few salient points to make it easier on the secret maker.

Re: Secrets you don't want to make...

(Anonymous) 2025-01-04 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
You coulda just said it was wordy. Or just wordy.

Re: Secrets you don't want to make...

(Anonymous) 2025-01-04 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
That comes off as a personal preference and fails to communicate that OP is being a dick to the secret maker.

Re: Secrets you don't want to make...

(Anonymous) 2025-01-04 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
It's up to the secret maker to determine whether or not that's too much text.

Re: Secrets you don't want to make...

(Anonymous) 2025-01-04 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think they're a dick, I just think most people submitting these have never made a secret so just don't know where the limit is.

Re: Secrets you don't want to make...

(Anonymous) 2025-01-04 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not OP's fault you're incapable of reading more than one paragraph at a time when you're not on the toilet.

Not sure if you quite understand what people are talking about here. It isnt a tl;dr situation, its a limited space and not thinking about the thing you are asking someone else to do situation.

I really think people don't grasp how secrets are made and how much space text can take up and the limits of space and legibility.

But anon you were replying to was being an ass, just your reply to them makes no sense in this context.

It's just a potshot. I'm aware they said they were complaining for secret maker's sake. But if you need it explained: I was implying they were being dishonest and don't want to read a secret longer than a paragraph (and really, if anyone's post makes no sense, it's the anon's - how is OP's secret a wall of text in any way?).

For the record, I've seen secrets longer than OP's that fit into a picture just fine. Not crazy long, maybe a few words to a few sentences longer. And yes, I'm aware some people have attempted secrets with unreasonable lengths and were warned by secret maker about the chances of them being posted or even made. But as mentioned upthread, it's up to the secret maker to decide if it's doable.

DA

On the other hand, fitting all that into less than 800 x 800 pixels is gonna be a mess at best.

If this is what constitutes "being a dick" in your mind, I'm a little worried for you. Go take a nap.

OP

(Anonymous) 2025-01-04 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry, I typed this on the phone with several interruptions and didn't realize how long it had gotten while trying to explain what I meant, because people in this comm do love to misunderstand things from time to time. :( You can just ignore it.

I am however really sad about people calling me a dick for something I didn't mean to do. I will refrain from posting in these threads from now on.

I will refrain from posting in these threads from now on.

That's really not the lesson you need to take from this. Some rando on the internet being prissy shouldn't keep you from doing anything.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2025-01-05 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this. "How dare you make me read?" anon is not most of us.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2025-01-05 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
i hope it was clear the gamestop thread was joking. the first 'wordy' anon was a whiner so some of us other anons took it to the point of absurdity

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2025-01-05 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
I think in situations like this there is a happy medium. I think starting a rough draft in a notes app the finding a way to express the idea in less than five sentences before posting here is one possibility. It's more about being attentive as well as reasonable in expectations for the secret maker.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2025-01-05 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Please don't, don't make assholes dictate your experience here. But! Anons were right, it is wordy and probably needs some revision

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2025-01-05 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
you're a dick for making yourself a victim. I'm sorry BUT *cries* is not an apology at all.

It's past your bedtime, troll.

Re: OP

if you don't have anything to say and just reply to upset people than you are the troll and a hypocrite.
