So, this used to be me, nonny. I kept getting bitten by stories ideas that were well beyond what I knew how to write. Now, it helps a lot when I write a stripped down synopsis of about one page with everything that has to be in the story. Not details or embellishments. Just cause-effect, this happens, that happens, major scenes in chronological order so I can see if the story fits together in a logical way or if something needs to be changed while it is still basically very simple. Then I can build on that without getting lost. It's cut down on a lot of wasted effort and a lot of not knowing if I will have to make major revisions later.
