To be fair, it's hard to take Vivek Ramaswamy seriously in general.

Especially when he sounds like the kind of vindictive nerd who went plummeting straight into incel hell.

Even when people cared about Boy Meets World, wtf venerated Corey Matthews? Did Vivek spend the 90s trapped in alt.tv.boy-meets-world?

It's a really dumb analogy, and extremely dated, too. There are plenty of more contemporary, real-world examples he could've pointed to, such as where the funding for educational programs goes to vs. sports programs, etc. I figured he was just taking the wussy, safer option of silly, fictional examples instead of pointing out the obvious - that the U.S. has a real issue with distrusting science and education and smart people, that politicians regularly under-fund public schools because they know there'll be very little protest, that we pay teachers absolute peanuts, etc. etc.

The tone was very much one of those "nerd who was picked on-- or THOUGHT they were picked on and who has held a grudge since middle school."

I love this pic!

I lived through the TGIF lineup and remember how beloved Urkel was. His alter ego was fine for an occasional twist, but Urkel was 100% the reason you watched. Cory on BMW was also corny and cringey and beloved for being so.

Sooo Vivek is either being tone-deaf and terrible at analogies... or he's an xennial.

I guess it's easier to whine about 90s culture than to increase funding for STEM education...

Screech is such a weird choice for the contrast. Maybe he was book smart (and I'm not sure I would say that, since it certainly didn't seem all that consistent), but he was such a dimwit on so many other levels.

But anyway, Frasier was pretty popular, and so were Murphy Brown and Spin City. Also, it was Steve, not Stefan, that was the draw for Family Matters (the reason Stefan was used as many times in later seasons was to give Jaleel White's voice a break from doing his Steve voice).

So, yeah, not only is his rant outdated, even if you focus on that era, it's kind of wrong.

VENERATES???

that's. uh. a really strong word for 'laughs at hijinks of'

Particularly given that Corey was arguably the least popular of the main three, especially once he aged out of "cute kid" and really started leaning into the "neurotic old man" side of his character.
